Is the doctor making PF worse?
Quick summary. I have had PF for a little over a year now. Last summer I started seeing a podiatrist. Was told I have PF and a pinched nerve in 2nd toe. Had 4 or 5 shots the heel and the pad. 4 or 5 each. Fast forward to Jan 2009.... I am crawling to the bathroom in the morning because both feet hurt so bad, I can't walk. Yes, I now, apparently, have PF in both heels along with the above mentioned pinched nerve and...wait for it... a cyst that has formed somewhere over said pinched nerve. Lucky me.
I have been getting 3 shots a week since the beginning of January. My toe is no better, my left heel was better until I woke up Saturday with pain in my arch, close to my heel, of the right foot. Last night it felt a little better, this morning it hurt, but I limped around doing the dusting. By noon there was swelling in the arch and slight redness. Now the swelling and the redness are in two seperate areas. The swelling is closer to the heel and the redness is in the middle. I called the dr. I went in and his answer was to give me two more shots. One of which hurt so bad I almost hit him out of reflex. He was rolling that needle around in the side of my foot like he had all the time in the world. Anyway, I still have no clue as to why the swelling occured, the dr didn't, wouldn't or couldn't say. The shot didn't help at all. I'm still swollen and in pain and now my left heel hurts once again, along with the outside edge of my right foot, as a consequence of having to compensate. I did no abnormal activities to cause swelling.
On to the actual question.....Is this doctor making things worse? Should I have this many shots? What caused the swelling? I seem to be almost worse off now.

My doctor refused to give me a shot even after I requested it after having PF for a year. It was her feeling that the shot caused more damage then it helped. I would definitely me concerned that the doctor is just continuing to inject you when it does not appear to be working. It they are a GP then I would try a podiatrist.

I HAVE PF IN BOTH FEET, AND THE CRAWLING TO THE BATHROOM PART I TRUELY UNDERSTAND, MY DOCTOR RECOMENDED SHOTS OF WHICH I WILL NOT GET BECAUSE OF ALL THE FEEDBACK I READ ABOUT, WHEN MY DOCTOR TOLD ME HE WAS GOING TO GIVE ME SHOTS ON MY LAST VISIT, I TOLD HIM ABOUT THE THINGS I READ ABOUT AND HOW EVERYONE IVE TALKED TO SAID THEY ONLY MAKE THINGS WORSE, HE STATED THAT WASNT TRUE AND HIS WORDS WERE UNLESS YOU GET SOME QUACK THAT GIVES THEM TOO OFTEN, AND STILL WITH ALL THE EXTREEM PAIN I AM HAVING I REFUSE TO GET THESE SHOTS, I AM GOING TO TRY LAZER SUGERY HOPEFULLY BY A CHIROPRACTER I HEARD THIS IS A PAINLESS SUGERY.

Holy crap! 3 shots of what? cortisone? Please tell me it's not cortisone! Cortisone causes permanent tissue degenertion, you can only have 3 shots of it in one place in a year!, and there is a lifetime limit as well. It sounds like you have 2 things going on... morton's neuroma, and PF. The nerve could be pinched in a couple of places, including around the heel. Have you ever had injuries to your knee or ankle? What kind and when? Please go to my website and read up. I have a self help guide, it's free, and I promise I'll never spam you. The PF can be taken care of fairly easily, with no more shots. The morton's neuroma is another story, and typically requires surgery, but take care of the PF first.
I am a Medical Massage Therapist in the US. I've been in practice for 25 years, and I spent my first 5 years with an orthopedic surgeon doing hip, knee, and ankle, injury and surgical rehabilitation. I have seen many treatments for plantar fasciitis. Few of them actually work. Arch supports help, proper shoes help, but they don't fix it.
In my experience the single biggest cause of PF (plantar fasciitis) is poor healing from ankle sprains, strains, and breaks. This is especially true of lateral "rollover" injuries. the more a patient has had of these, the more likely they are to develop PF. The tendons that wrap around the ankle

I agree with Kay mostly, I have had PF for a while know and I am slowly mending. My Physio has given different stretches for the last 5 months and inserts for my shoes (takes pressure off the plantar fascia ligament ) as well as heel cushion cups.
Ditch your doctor and get one that actually cares about their patients. There are alot of doctors who want to push patients through quickly to get more money. It took me a few doctors until I found one that wanted to help, or didn't know found out the information to help. Being pumped full of drugs into your feet doesn't really help the situation.
The stretches i have to do four times a day are (attached pdf):
1. Two calf stretches one with leg straight and one knee bent, making sure your back heels doesn't touch the ground (as it is all about the stretch to the calf muscle) holding the stretch for 15 secs.
2. Achilles stretch is all about stretcinh the foot, so you move your knee back or forward to get the acquired stretch that is needed.
3. Plantar fascia stretch is all about putting your foot on a wall and getting a stretch this way.
If you are having pain we getting out of bed in the morning my Physio says, pull yor toes back before getting out of bed to give your plantar fascia ligament a stretch.
I was also told by my Physio freeze a softdrink bottle and when you are sitting down watching t.v or reading a book roll the bottle in the arch of your foot for 10 mins at a time
I have had the shots once, made a difference for 3 days then went back to where I started, and I have been told if you have too many injects it thins out the ligament.
